Work was dragging by last night. The roads were icy, it was a frigid 8 degrees outside, and certainly no one was going to leave their house to come get a coffee and pastry. Waiting for the clock to strike midnight, so I could finally get some much needed rest, was like watching paint dry. The only thing that kept me going last night was knowing that today was my day to sleep in. So I finally crawled into bed last night, set my alarm for 10:30 am, and drifted off to sleep.
But here’s the thing with always waking up early, your body just wakes up on its own even if it is your day to sleep in. So I am sure you can imagine I was not very thrilled when my body naturally woke up at 7:30 am. I figured if I was going to be awake I might as well be productive. I made a cup of coffee, mixed my protein shake, and was ready to take on the day.
Then reality hit me like a brick. Even though this is my off day there is plenty of housework that needs to be done, like 5 loads of laundry (because that is what happens when you go out of town). I don’t know about y’all but I absolutely hate laundry and I am not very good at doing it cheerfully. So I let the laundry episode set my attitude for the rest of the day: today was going to suck. I was going to spend my entire day basically snowed in, doing laundry, cleaning dishes, sweeping, etc.
After all of that was done I sat down at my computer for a much needed break. After taking a few deep breaths a wash of satisfaction drifted over me. Its only Monday and this weeks house chores are done. I can breathe and get ready to take on the rest of the week. I sat and silently thanked God for being able to find joy in the mundane tasks; in the little things such as doing the laundry.
I know most of this post is just rambling about my day but y’all God is so good and each day is such a gift. Let his joy carry you through the most mundane task. Let his love radiate in every part of your day. Thank him for a healthy body that lets you complete your daily task. I know I am overwhelmingly grateful for the gift of today, for the gift of each of you who take the time to read my post, and for the gift of this life.
Have a blest day friends!
